I thought you deserved a quick break from all that networking stuff so here’s a short photography related post for once. Short summary: there’s new Canon 7D Firmware available!
Canon 7D Firmware
Yes indeed – version 2.0 is here with some much needed updates, including:
- Auto ISO limit (you Nikon users had this for ages; now finally Canon caught up!)
- Higher burst rates for continuous shooting
- New GPS receiver compatibility
- Faster scrolling during playback
- In-camera RAW conversion
- JPEG resizing
- Ratings
- Filename customization
- Time Zone settings
Installation is a snap – either copy the file over to a flash card and install on the camera from there, or you can connect your camera to your computer and let the Canon EOS Utility copy the file over for you. I chose the latter, and it was copied over in seconds, then the camera prompted me to continue with the update. A few minutes later it was all done!
Windows 7
Just a side note, but I had not plugged my Canon 7D into a computer for a while (I usually grab the flash cards and work with those directly). Isn’t this just beautiful?
The link offered to the EOS Utility is particularly handy, and the nice icon is silly but lovely. It made me feel like it was very well integrated, so good job to Canon and Microsoft on this one (whomever is responsible).

I can’t wait to get going with this one.
