The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is a great set of car races taking place at tracks around the country, with this season’s closer – the 14th Annual Petit Le Mans – being held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA. The race lasts 10 hours or 1000 miles (whichever comes first) at the 2.54 mile Road Atlanta course, with super fast purpose-built race cars (the LMP class) and pretty damn fast modified production sports cars (the GT class) contesting their respective classes on the same track at the same time. The race starts in the hot morning sun at 11.30AM and ends around 9:30pm in the dark. It’s something to behold, it really is.
As a keen amateur photographer based fairly close to Road Atlanta this kind of event is right up my street - but I knew that the lenses I had in my bag wouldn’t be as flexible as I would like. Time to find something nicer I think?
Find out what I chose and see some of the race images I captured after the jump.
